Carlsbad Village Guide

Things to Do, Eat, Shop & Experience

Carlsbad Village is the kind of place that turns a beach trip into something more. State Street runs through the heart of it — lined with Michelin-recognized restaurants, locally-owned boutiques, craft breweries, and coffee shops that regulars treat like a second living room. The beach is two blocks west. The mountains are an hour east. And everything in between is walkable.

If you're planning a stay in Carlsbad, the Village is where your trip actually happens.

Where to eat in Carlsbad Village

The dining scene on and around State Street punches well above what you'd expect from a small coastal town. From a Michelin-starred tasting menu to wood-fired pizza with no reservation required, there's a full range — and almost all of it is within walking distance.

Campfire (2725 State St) — The anchor restaurant of Carlsbad's dining scene. Michelin Bib Gourmand, wood-fired locally-sourced menu, and an outdoor firepit patio that makes dinner feel like an event. Book ahead.

Jeune et Jolie (2659 State St) — Carlsbad's only Michelin-starred restaurant. Modern French tasting menu and a setting designed for special occasions. One of the best meals in North County San Diego.

Wildland (State St) — Wood-fired pizza, seasonal sandwiches, open-concept indoor-outdoor space, no reservations. Great for a relaxed lunch or early dinner.

Docent Brewing (State St) — Local craft brews, a comfortable taproom, and rotating food options. A solid stop before or after dinner.

Village Kabob (2899 State St) — Carlsbad's go-to for Mediterranean and Middle Eastern food. Kabobs, gyros, falafel, hummus, fresh, fast, and consistently good.

Pop Pie Co. (2956 Roosevelt St) — Savory hand pies, quiches, and dessert slices with global influences. Vegetarian and vegan options. Good any time of day.

264 Fresco (264 Carlsbad Village Dr) — House-made pastas, fresh seafood, and a strong wine list. A reliable dinner choice a step up from casual.

Lofty Coffee (2742 State St) — The morning anchor for Carlsbad Village regulars. Excellent espresso and a great spot to start a slow beach day.

Las Olas (Carlsbad Blvd) — A beachside institution since 1981. Traditional Mexican food, strong margaritas, and a location that's been feeding locals for decades.

Where to shop in Carlsbad Village

The Village isn't a mall. It's a collection of independently-owned stores spread across State Street, Grand Avenue, and Roosevelt Street — the kind of shopping where you actually find things you didn't know you were looking for.

Offshore Surf Shop (3179 Carlsbad Blvd) — The local surf shop. Boards, wetsuits, apparel, and gear from people who actually use it. A Carlsbad staple for anyone heading into the water.

Fahrenheit 451 Bookstore — A cozy, curated bookstore with new and used titles. Perfect for finding a beach read before heading to the sand.

Swirl Boutique — One of Carlsbad Village's most-loved clothing boutiques. Unique selection, friendly staff, and the kind of shop guests mention by name when they come back.

Status Skateshop (3045 Roosevelt St) — Boards, apparel, and accessories for skate culture. A long-standing local shop worth a browse.

Carlsbad Village Art & Antique Mall — A sprawling collection of antiques, vintage finds, and art from multiple vendors. Good for an afternoon browse with no particular agenda.

State Street Farmers Market (State St, every Wednesday) — A weekly open-air market featuring certified growers, fresh produce, local artisans, and prepared food vendors. One of the best mid-week things to do in the Village. Arrive hungry.

Events in Carlsbad Village

The Village runs a full calendar year-round. A few events worth planning your trip around:

Carlsbad Village Street Fair — Held twice a year in May and November, this is one of the largest open-air street fairs in the United States. Over 900 vendors, live music, international food, a beer garden, and arts and crafts spread across the entire Village. Free to attend. Upcoming dates: May 3, 2026 and November 1, 2026. Book your stay at Casa Carlsbad early if you're planning around this one.

Art in the Village — Every June, State Street and Grand Avenue fill with 150 local and regional artists for a one-day outdoor art fair. Live music on the main stage, interactive art demonstrations, a children's pavilion, and free admission. A genuinely special summer Sunday in the Village.

Carlsbad 5000 — Southern California's premier 5K, billed as the world's fastest. Takes runners along the coastline through the Village each spring. Worth attending even if you're not racing — the energy in the Village that weekend is contagious.

State Street Farmers Market — Every Wednesday, year-round. Rain or shine.

Getting around the Village

Everything listed on this page is walkable or a short ride from Casa Carlsbad. State Street is one block north. The beach is four blocks west. Most guests leave their car parked for days at a time — which is exactly the point.

For days when you want to explore further, Carlsbad Premium Outlets and The Forum are a short drive south, and downtown Oceanside and Encinitas are both within 15 minutes.

The beaches are just the beginning

Carlsbad Village sits at the top of one of the finest stretches of coastline in North County San Diego. Tamarack Beach, Carlsbad State Beach, and the quieter cliff-lined shores south of the Village are all within walking distance — and each one has its own character.

Stay one block from it all

Casa Carlsbad puts you one block from State Street and four blocks from the beach — the closest private vacation rental to the heart of Carlsbad Village. Four units available, from a cozy studio to a 2-bedroom villa, or book the whole property for groups up to 15.
